Beauty before your honeymoon
Monday, December 7, 2009 at 1:04PM
So much emphasis is placed on looking your best on the big day, but what about after that? Don't you want to look sexy, confident, beautiful when beachside on your honeymoon too? And while you're at it...you might as well start a routine you can keep up with long after the newlywed phase is done. We asked Bridal Bar member and celebrity beauty expert, Nyrie of Nyrie Makeup and Hair, what she suggests to look your best before and after the big day.
BB:How soon should brides begin to prep their hair and skin before the big event?
Nyrie: Everyone's needs are different, and we should always be taking extra care of our hair and especially skin. For wedding and honeymoon prep, I say 6 months of rigorous skincare. Depending on your needs, an appointment with your Dermatologist may be in order. They can discuss treatment options with you that will give you the best results by your deadline. If you are not in need of the doctor, a few visits with your esthetician of choice should do the trick. Monthly or bi- monthly facials, consisting of light peels and deep cleansing, along with a good at home skin care regime. I also highly recommend pre-natal vitamins, evening primrose oil, and an acidophiles/ bifidus combination for the best internal care, that will show through your healthy skin and hair.

BB: For hair?
Nyrie: For hair care I recommend having your hair trimmed every 6 weeks, and an at home deep conditioning treatment once a month. If your hair is in need of serious damage control. Your local salon can provide you with deeper penetrating hair masks. Coconut oil is a great home remedy. Apply to dry hair, leave on a minimum of 20 minutes. Shampoo and condition regularly.
BB: What can a bride do before the wedding day to prepare her skin to look its absolute best?
Nyrie: Rest, relaxation and hydration. Take a few moments to yourself the night before. Get as many hours of sleep as you can. And drink tons of water. Stress shows in our face and body, the less stress we have, the better we look.
BB: What pre-honeymoon prep should take place?
Nyrie: I suggest having your eyelashes professionally dyed prior to your honeymoon. A dense blue/black gives a nice depth to the eye without having to wear any mascara. You will look great on the beach, in the water, and in the bedroom. In the mornings, just curl your lashes, apply tinted moiturizer and lip gloss, and you are good to go. You can also dye your eyebrows, (if you are someone who normally needs to fill them in). I recommend trying this at least one month prior, this way you will know how many days you will need to dye them before the big day. There is nothing worse than brows that are too dark.

BB: What about the location of the honeymoon should be kept in mind when planning?
Nyrie: Simplicity and climate. You don't want to lug a suitcase full of of products that you won't be using. Think about the climate that you will be in and be realistic about what you will be doing while on vacation. If you are travelling somewhere tropical, ditch the flat iron, it won't work anyways. Instead use the natural humidity in your favor. Braid damp hair at night, and let loose in the morning. Use a touch of serum to tame frizz at the ends, and you have loose beachy waves that will last all day.
BB: How about the season/time of year?
Nyrie: In the Spring and Summer we need less moisturizer. I suggest switching to a serum with Hyaluronic acid, that will lock in moisture, without feeling heavy. In the Fall/ Winter, it is time to hydrate again. You know it's time to switch, when your skin suddenly feels really tight and no matter how much water you drink, you just can't seem to get your skin hydrated. Rather than heavy moisturizers, I like serums with an oil layered over them, especially at night. Try Emu Oil, from your local heath food store. It is noncomedogenic and one of the best moisturizers I have ever used. Winter is also the time for exfoliation, use washcloths everyday, and a product which contains salicylic or glycolic acid for deeper exfoliation.
Thanks Nyrie for taking time out of your crazy schedule to shed some light on the right way to get that honeymoon glow (before and after the day is done).

thanks so much for this post... i have had skin problems since 11 years old and i am worried that the week of or even the day before my skin will just go bonkers and i wont be able to do a thing about it... thank you though, the info is very helpful !
When it comes to skin care, never ever procrastinate! It isn't something we can change on a whim, so get this concern straightened out first before worrying about your wedding motif, or you invitation designs. As the bride, you have no choice but to be THE center of attention! Might as well give them a good show.
